Major Manjit – Kirti Chakra Awardee
For his extraordinary bravery and leadership, Major Manjit has been awarded the prestigious “Kirti Chakra”, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award. His fearless actions while facing grave danger saved many innocent lives and eliminated a major threat to our national security.
On April 25, 2024, Major Manjit led an intense operation in Sopore district, Jammu & Kashmir while tracking the movement of two foreign terrorists. After receiving credible intelligence, he set up a security cordon. In response, the terrorists aggressively retaliated which led to multiple breakouts throughout the night.
On April 26 at 0530 hours, one of the terrorists tried to escape through an orchard, using natural cover. Major Manjit prevented his escape and pinned him down with sharp instincts and quick reflexes, ,
As the situation intensified, he noticed a civilian and two children were trapped in a nearby cowshed. Under heavy fire, he executed a brave rescue. He ensured their safety before turning his focus back on the enemy.
Now, determined to eliminate the threat, he crawled forward under continuous gunfire, engaging the terrorist in a final, ferocious firefight. When the terrorist was trying to throw a grenade at his team, Major Manjit acted immediately and neutralized him on the spot securing victory for his unit.
